Dr. Woehler’s unique early career experiences influenced her decision to pursue her doctorate and to focus on emerging issues arising from the intersectionality of technology, trauma, and addiction. She previously served on active duty in the United States Army, held civil service management roles focused on information/computer security, leadership roles for several early-stage startups, and Microsoft Corporation where her roles included Managing Director of global security and privacy consulting services, Director of global security programs, Chief of Staff, Senior Director of Online Services and Azure security, privacy, and compliance.
Orientation
Dr. Woehler’s work is grounded in culturally-informed integration of theoretical orientations to include relational psychodynamic, attachment, cognitive, behavioral, family systems, and trauma-informed consideration for neurobiological development. She incorporates scientific advances and understanding the role of relational attachment to neurobiological development and how trauma can arise from lack of relational attachment. The relational psychodynamic approach respects all human beings are born with a primary need for relatedness and that relatedness is necessary for survival. Cognitive approaches are informed by how and what people think which leads to the arousal of emotions–certain thoughts and beliefs may lead to distressing emotions and behaviors. Behavioral approaches view all behaviors as learned responses to interactions with environmental stimuli. Family systems theory defines the family unit as a complex system in which members interact to influence each other’s behavior; the internal family systems model combines systems thinking with the view that the mind is comprised of relatively discrete subpersonalities, each with its own unique viewpoint and qualities.
Treatment Approach
Dr. Woehler is passionate about working with each person with respect for their unique goals, preferences, and circumstances. She integrates evidence-based treatment in culturally-informed practice of Relational Psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), Gestalt, Integrated Family Systems (IFS), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Somatic Psychotherapies, Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Strategic Family Therapy (SFT), Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training (CRAFT), Trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), and trauma-informed modalities.
Dr. Woehler provides group treatment focused on trauma and addiction (Early Recovery, Seeking Safety, DBT-SUD), Sex and Pornography Addiction, Skill Training in Affective Regulation (STAIR), Grief and Loss, Mindfulness, CBT for Chronic Pain, Shame Resilience, Relationship Skills, and processing groups focused on life changes and transitions.
